An Introduction to the Civilian Commitee

Civilian Committee

In order to understand the role performed by the Civilian Committee it is necessary to spend just a few moments in describing the how the ATC is controlled. Although day to day running of Squadrons and the implementation of the training policy is exercised by the uniform structure, with the civilian structure in a supporting role, the setting of this policy is determined jointly and ultimately by the Air Cadet Council where civilian representation predominates.

As a civilian youth organisation, the ATC has responsibilities to the community in which the Squadron is located and equally, each such community has some obligation to support its local ATC unit. The Civilian committee provides the two-way link to assist each side discharge its responsibility of obligation to each other.

Typically but by no means exclusively the Civilian Welfare Committee would support the Squadron by assisting the Officer Commanding in the organisation of events; publicity; fund raising, accounting and the selection of premises. On a more general basis the Committee would assist and provide advice in matters concerning the efficient running of the unit and any welfare problems that might arise among the cadets or staff.

These responsibilities and many others are discharged during regular meetings usually held at the Squadron. The aforementioned gives only a "flavour" of the vital role the Civilian Welfare Committee plays in the efficient running of a Squadron AND THE Corps as a whole. If you feel you would like to know more or would like to discuss the possibility of joining the Committee at 2168 then please e-mail us to arrange a discussion or meeting.
