Baroness Gibson of Market Rasen OBE

Honorary Squadron President

Baroness Gibson was appointed as Honorary President of the squadron in 2002 after visiting us on a number of occasions to talk about her work in the House of Lords and present awards at annual parades. A former senior trade union official, the Baroness works hard on behalf of the Squadron and Corps raising their profile at national levels. A member of the House of Lords Defence Committee and the Air Cadet Council she works closely with the Chiefs of the Defence Staff and the Commandant of the Air Training Corps. Baroness Gibson meets with the Ministers of State and recently arranges for cadets from 2168 to meet with the Ministers and visit the Ministry of Defence in Whitehall.

The Baroness has a long record of public service concerning the Health & Safety Executive and the Equal Opportunities Commission. She has raised many issues in the House of Lords and was instrumental in improving adoption legislation. Her great interest in Healthy & Safety issues led to her being appointed as President of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA).

Baroness Gibson was a member of the BBC Charter Review Committee and the All Party Constitutional Reform Committee. Married to former trade union leader John, who supports her work with the Squadron and is popular company on the squadron visits to the House of Lords, Baroness Gibson enjoys relaxing at her home and in th e Lot region of France.
