Flight Sergeant Sarah Shorter

NCO Team Leader

Flight Sergeant Shorter joined the Squadron in March 2005 and quickly developed into one of the squadrons most capable and enthusiastic cadets. She has a vast amount of experience within all aspect of the ACO having thrown herself into most activities that the organisation offers.

Working towards her Silver Duke of Edinburgh's Award she has competed at all levels of ACO sport within various disciplines including Hockey, Athletics, Swimming and Cross Country Running. She has attended several UK Camps and has qualified as a Corps Marksman on both small bore and full bore weapons.

Having completed her curricular training, Flight Sergeant Shorter has gained a B-TEC in Aviation Studies and is currently enrolled on the B-TEC in Public Services. Her most recent achievements include gaining her Silver Gliding Wings on the Vigilant Motor Glider at RAF Linton on Ouse and being appointed as Lead Bell Lyre in North Region's first ever Regional Band.

After moving on from her duties as Flight Commander to No3 Flight she was recently appointed as the squadrons Non-Commissioned Officer In Charge (NCO IC). This position sees her as the team leader to the squadron's NCO team which in turn enables her to use her skills to assist in the development of the current crop of NCOs along with potential future JNCOs. Other duties include assistance with the organisation of the Squadron's band along with involvement in the delivery of the squadrons B-TEC programmes.

Away from squadron, Sarah is in the second year of her A-Level studies with our community partner Benton Park School. She is studying English, Technology and Photography and is also part of the school council. Sarah hopes to take a gap year before studying Product Design at University.
