DR ISH RETURNS FROM FOREIGN TRAVEL

Attendance at the annual presentation parade of our twin squadron in New Zealand was only one of many highlights in a six week tour of New Zealand and Japan by Dr. Peter Isherwood, Media Communications Officer with 2168.

While in New Zealand Dr Ish, as he known at the squadron, was a guest at the Presentation Parade of Yeadon’s twin squadron 18 (Avon) Squadron of the New Zealand Cadet Forces.

Dr Ish and his brother David, who is a resident of Christchurch, met with the staff and cadets both before and after the parade. The Avon cadets assembled in the warm sunshine on the former Royal New Zealand Air Force base at Wigram just outside Christchurch to receive their prizes from Squadron Leader Joss Adlam, RNZAF, the Executive Officer of the Royal New Zealand Air Force Museum which is sited at RNZAF Wigram.

Dr Ish commented: "It was a great pleasure to attend the presentation ceremony and meet the cadets and staff once again. It was particularly pleasing to hear that Avon Squadron had won the best squadron in South Island award this year and had come second overall in New Zealand. I was also very pleased to meet Shyrlee Roberts who edits the Avon Squadron’s newsletter and keeps me informed about activities in New Zealand."

In addition to attending the presentation parade Dr Isherwood rose to the heights in Auckland when he ascended to the top of the Sky Tower and in Tokyo when he went to the 40th floor of the World Trade Centre and then he went up to 2020 metres at the fourth level on Mount Fuji. Dr Ish did confess that this was by coach rather than climbing. Another highlight was being filmed by a Japanese television company for a programme on tourism in Japan.

On his return to the Yeadon squadron, Dr Isherwood said: "I had a really great time in both New Zealand and Japan. I have been to New Zealand on a number of occasions but it was the first time I've been to Japan. It was interesting learning about the Japanese culture and visiting the Imperial Palace and a number of temples".

Its great to have you home Dr Ish!!!!!!
